a new light - joy.
Have you ever known something about your own character - that is pretty obvious to others - but that Jesus wants to truly redefine/refine so that it is PURE and full of His RIGHTNESS.
For me that characteristic is JOY. I am usually "SO excited" about much of life and am willing to encourage you or rejoice with you at any moment. But Jesus has been showing me where my joy has yet to be made complete. Untarnished. Pure. Genuine. After some recent trials and a sorrowful, self-pity and condemning season, I've realized how "shakable" my joy is. I've forgotten (perhaps never understood) where true joy arises from (picture of a gurgling spring or fountain). And that is THANKSGIVING and a BELIEF of WHO my GOD - JESUS - really is.
JOY
Genesis 45:13-15
13Tell my father how I am honored here in Egypt. Tell him about everything you have seen, and bring him to me quickly." 14Weeping with joy, he embraced Benjamin, and Benjamin also began to weep. 15Then Joseph kissed each of his brothers and wept over them, and then they began talking freely with him.
JOY IN RECONCILIATION
Leviticus 9:23-25
23Next Moses and Aaron went into the Tabernacle, and when they came back out, they blessed the people again, and the glorious presence of the LORD appeared to the whole community. 24Fire blazed forth from the LORD's presence and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. When the people saw all this, they shouted with joy and fell face down on the ground.
JOY IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD - FIRE FROM THE LORD'S PRESENCE, YOU SHOULD LEAVE MY PRESENCE IN AWE AND JOY
Numbers 28:16-18
16"On the appointed day in early spring,[a] you must celebrate the LORD's Passover. 17On the following day a joyous, seven-day festival will begin, but no bread made with yeast may be eaten. 18On the first day of the festival you must call a sacred assembly of the people. None of your regular work may be done on that day.
PASSOVER - JOY - THEY WERE SAVED BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB
Deuteronomy 16:14-16
14This festival will be a happy time of rejoicing with your family, your servants, and with the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows from your towns. 15For seven days celebrate this festival to honor the LORD your God at the place he chooses, for it is the LORD your God who gives you bountiful harvests and blesses all your work. This festival will be a time of great joy for all.
GOD BLESSES YOUR DAILY LIFE - EVERYTHING GOOD YOU HAVE IS FROM HIM - WHAT JOY IN THANKING HIM FOR HIS PROVISION. CELEBRATE THESE THINGS WITH THOSE YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY
Deuteronomy 28:46-48
47Because you have not served the LORD your God with joy and enthusiasm for the abundant benefits you have received, 48you will serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you. You will be left hungry, thirsty, naked, and lacking in everything. They will oppress you harshly until you are destroyed.
SERVE GOD WITH JOY AND ENTHUSIASM OUT OF THANKSGIVING FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED OR YOU WILL SERVE YOUR ENEMIES - BE STUCK IN YOUR SORROW, CONDEMNATION, SELFPITY - SLAVE TO THEM.

4So they sent men to Shiloh to bring back the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim. Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of Eli, helped carry the Ark of God to where the battle was being fought. 5When the Israelites saw the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD coming into the camp, their shout of joy was so loud that it made the ground shake!
6"What's going on?" the Philistines asked. "What's all the shouting about in the Hebrew camp?" When they were told it was because the Ark of the LORD had arrived,
MY PRESENCE SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO SUSTAIN YOUR JOY FOREVER. DO NOT CONTAIN ME. YOUR LACK OF JOY = YOU'VE SHRUNK ME ENOUGH SO THAT YOU ARE NOT EXCITED ABOUT ME! BE EXCITED ABOUT ME!

and rescues me from my enemies.
You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies;
you save me from violent opponents.

I will sing joyfully to your name.

You give great victories to your king;
you show unfailing love to your anointed,
to David and all his descendants forever."
YOU RESCUE ME. YOU BRING VICTORY OVER MY ENEMIES. YOU ARE MY PROTECTOR. THERE IS NEVERENDING JOY BECAUSE OF THIS ALONE.
Oh Jesus - restore unto me the JOY of your SALVATION. Let it be enough, Jesus. YOU are enough for my joy to be made complete.
Clean my heart, Oh God. Wipe away all of my selfish and fleshly definitions of joy. Teach me again.
Create in me a clean heart oh God,
And renew a right spirit within me.
Create in me a clean heart oh God,
And renew a right spirit within me.
And cast me not away from Thy presence oh Lord,
And take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation,
And renew a right spirit within me.
